Pulsar

Overview

Pulsars are rotating neutron stars that with a strong magnetic field (see magnetars) that emit electromagnetic radiation out of their poles. As they rotate, the radiation can be detected from Earth and used to determine the rotation rate of the star.

The speed at which pulsars rotate can vary wildly, but there exist some that spin at insane rates, such as PSR J1748−2446ad, which spins at just over 714 Hz!
