Magnetar
Overview
Magnetars are a type of neutron star, which are characterized by an extremely powerful magnetic field and a tendency to rotate slightly slower (~0.1-0.5Hz) than typical neutron stars (~1-10Hz). It’s estimated that the field decays rather quickly after a relatively short stellar lifetime of about 10,000 years.
Warning
Their magnetic field alone would be lethal at distances around 1,000 km as it would disrupt the electron clouds in matter.
